Minor clarification; what's described in the post is branding, scarification creates scars using sharp instruments and sometimes skin removal. (I wasn't there but Cory's pic looks like scarification to me).

I too was pleasantly surprised by this. After walking what felt like a dozen blocks on Central Ave in the cold Friday night (probably really more like 4 blocks), I purchased a 6 pack and killed 2 on the way back. Liked it enough (price and taste combined) to buy a case.

I'd bring a drying rag. Cleaning it occasionally will have less of an impact than the bleach used to whiten paper towels.

I suspect that in the long run reusing the ceramic mug is still the better choice even with the paper towels, especially if you're responsible about their use... i.e. use one. From my limited experience with the paper industry I know that NY produces paper towels, white paper, and kraft paper, so they might not have to travel as far as paper cups.

Someone recently recommended that I write an app that you can scan a barcode and get an estimate of the impact and give alternative choices. Obviously, this could be included in that, sans barcode.
